December Recap

Happy New Year everybody! What an incredible year 2009 was. It was such a great journey and I have met so many wonderful and talented people along the way. Thank you to everyone who has participated in my portrait project here. It was such an honor to have spent time with you and to take your portrait. I am so lucky to have had the chance to meet people from all over.

I know some of you thought I should make myself the last portrait but I had already shot myself earlier this year. Take a scroll back and find me! But the main reason I chose not to make myself the last portrait was because I wanted to be surprised. I didn't want to plan or think about that too much. I also knew that it would be hard to choose one person so shooting a family seemed to be a great way to end the project.

I have been going back and forth with whether or not I should continue the project in 2010 and I have also decided not to continue L'image Quotidienne in this new year. I am sorry if I am disappointing anyone but this project was to be for one year and although it would be great to continue on, indefinitely for that matter, there are some other projects that I would like to work on. I know I won't be able to completely stop shooting portraits of random people I see on the street but please look for those posts on my M Photo blog.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments and support. I am so grateful. But before I say goodbye I wanted to leave you all with two last portraits. They are the same ladies I shot at the beginning of this blog. What a difference a year makes! And please don't forget to check out what my December portraits are into. Super cool stuff people!

Thanks again and all the best in 2010!!

  1. I'm sad to hear you're not continuing, but I totally understand it, I wouldn't have done it either if I were you. I wish I would have found your project earlier, but I guess I'll just start looking at all your pictures from the beginning and work my way up till now.

I hope this will be a great year for you with lots of new things to immerse yourself in. Thank you for giving everyone the chance to see your beautiful project and for inspiring me and making me smile everyday!

  2. Mercedes,

Congratulations for the completion of your project. I learned that keeping the discipline to post every single day is complicated, and, in the case of this blog, dependent on people's moods, light conditions, weather, so on and so forth.

The idea itself is brilliant and I had a kick out of this. It is amazing the diversity of people you shot (brrrrrr - ok, took pictures of!), and their views about the year: hopeful at the begining, wishing that it'd go away in the last few weeks.

Let us know where your next project will be.

Thank you for the fun, and sorry for not making life easier for you (and the ones who are puzzled about the owner of this comment and the nature of his blog), as I write in Portuguese only ...

Take care, have a wonderful 2010.

As we say in Brazil, when we say goodbye, "beijos" (kisses).

  6. That. Was. Great. Thanks for all of it. It's too bad you're not doing it for another year...ah well, it was still enjoyable while it lasted.

  7. I loved your photo blog. I found you rather randomly (is that a word? Is now!) and it was to prove very serendipidous. I am from San Francisco (a native!) but have been living in England for the past almost 9 years. You made me realize one of the best things about The City - the people. It is such a fantastic place, with such a wonderful mix of people. I miss it terribly.

Thanks for giving me a little bit of home. Everyday.

  17. I found your blog Monday and started follow your posts religiously. I have not commented on any blog just yet but I was thinking I would like to. It's pretty exciting to actually contribute to an article even if it's only a blog. I really don't know exactly what to say other than I genuinely enjoyed reading through 3 of the articles. Nice articles indeed. I sure will keep visiting your blog regularly.
